How Rebounding Helped Me Achieve My Best Body at 45

The old world thinking was that in order to lose weight and get in your best shape you have to workout harder and eat less. I am here to tell you that with nearly 100% of my patients, this method backfires every time. So what do I tell my patients? What do I do myself to achieve the best body at 45 years old that I have ever had in my life? I’m going to share with you my secret. And it isn’t really a secret but it certainly is not conventional thinking. Welcome back and if this is the first time you have checked out one of my blogs of videos, I am Linné and as a physician, an author, and a huge lifestyle enthusiast I bring research-driven, clinically-tested, and proven methods to help you supercharge your health and to simplify your lifestyle. Have you ever watched an infomercial for a product that claims it is the new cure-all and hoped in your heart of hearts that it was true because you needed the health benefits that the beautiful TV host was claiming would be true if you just made three payments of 19.99? We’ve all been there. I have tried every diet on the planet and have done almost every online and DVD workout that promised me my best physique. However, in my trial and error and studies, I have found that there is a way to get in top shape without killing yourself!

In this video I want to answer three questions I get regularly in one video, especially now with the coronavirus and quarantine mandates: how do I workout from home, and what is my best overall health tip that applies to everyone?

As many of you know, I work with a lot of weight loss patients and I have done research on fat loss, building lean muscle, and hormone balance for decades. Having been 45 pounds heavier I have often been desperate to find what works and disregard what doesn’t. Now that I am responsible for helping my weight loss patients work out smarter not harder, I have had to find methods for them to maintain their hormone balance and help them keep their newly hard-earned physique. 

The old world thinking was that in order to lose weight and get in your best shape you have to work out harder and eat less. I am here to tell you that with nearly 100% of my patients, this method backfires every time. Why? Because the body is stressed out and starving and hoarding every ounce of fat that it can in order to stay alive. The answer to fat loss for most women especially is NOT eating 1,200 calories and working out in an intense cardio class for 60 minutes a day.  Because I often run hormone tests, adrenal tests, basic blood work, etc. on each of these patients, I can tell you that until folks recognize that they must balance hormones in order to properly burn fat, optimum weight loss will not happen. Period.  They may lose a pound or a few but they can’t reach their goal because their body resists any food restriction or exercise intensity that they have. 

WHAT IS MY SECRET?

So what do I tell my patients? What do I do myself to achieve the best body at 45 years old that I have ever had in my life?  I’m going to share with you my secret. And it isn’t really a secret but it certainly is not conventional thinking. 

Once my patients have a handle on their carb tolerance and they are eating enough food and the right types of food as described in my book The Forever Fat Burner, then we discuss what I like to call my minimum effective dose of exercise.  If you need help with your diet, don’t worry I have plenty of videos that I will link for you here and in my book that I will link for you below that you will learn my exact method for how I enjoy chocolate, wine, and sweet potatoes and still keep up my best physique. 

After the diet is in order (and diet is truly 80-90% of the solution) then we start rehabilitating the hormonal response to exercise by stopping all intense workouts. Seriously. I have folks stop all gym classes that are 60-minute boot camps or HIIT training and we do the minimum. For those of my patients that are willing to make the investment, I have them buy a cellersiser and bounce for 10 minutes per day, with three days a week being their HIIT training. If they feel they want to boost their sculpting power, I have them add in 1-3 hours of intrinsic muscle training per week. This could be a barre class, bodyweight training, callanetics, or the Tracy Anderson Method. But they don’t have to do this because the cellerciser works every muscle group in the body using your entire body weight x 2 at over 100x per minute. There is no dumbbell or machine at your gym that can achieve that kind of resistance. As for the icing on the cake to dip into the glycogen reserves, I tell them to take a 2-3 hour walk or hike on the weekends. If they prefer a long yoga class or a couple of dance sessions, that is alright as well. But if they only jumped on their trampoline, that would provide all the cardio, musculoskeletal training, and stretching that they need. Seriously. And the best part? This kind of exercise will not overstress the adrenals or cause further hormonal imbalance. In fact, the mini trampoline will help to rejuvenate the adrenals and thyroid.

WHAT DO I LOOK FOR IN A REBOUNDER?

I get asked why I prefer the cellerciser to other trampolines on the market. The truth is, I did not start out with any brand preferences when I researched the health benefits of rebounding; but, as I dug deeper into the different types of rebounders out there I developed criteria for what I wanted for my patients. I needed the rebounder to be safe for my overweight patients and hold up to 300 or more pounds without causing injury to their joints. I needed it to provide maximum stability so that ankles and feet don’t pronate when jumping into the mat. I needed other physicians to have clinically tested the health benefits, I needed to have a company that was available to answer disease-specific questions I had and help me modify the exercises to meet my patients' needs. I also needed the product to have a life-time guarantee as it may be the last piece of exercise equipment they own. I also needed a rebounder that will fold up quickly and store easily for my patients who like me like decluttered spaces. And it needed to be reasonably priced to justify the quality. 

WHY DO I PREFER THE CELLERCISER OVER OTHER COMPETETERS?

When I looked into the quality of the product I discovered that the mat is made of dense polypropylene rather than canvas nylon or plastic so it won’t stretch or wear out.

The springs are: triple-tiered. This allows the springs to adapt to the weight of the person using it. Uniformly sized springs cannot do this, nor can bungee cords. The springs do not connect directly into the frame so that the frame never wears out. The legs don’t screw on. They are held in place with piano wire. The rubber tips of the legs are made from a polymer and will last for years. And it literally takes just seconds for me to fold up my rebounder and put it away.

While there may be relatively reliable rebounders out there, I am not here to argue the integrity of other companies. I am here to tell you that I have clinically tested this rebounder, it meets all of my criteria for my patients and I could not be more pleased with the results and safety of the product.  Because of this, it is the only one I recommend. 

COMMON MISTAKES:

The most common mistake I see folks make when choosing a rebounder is grabbing what is cheap on Amazon. This is what I did when I first started out. And I am here to tell you that you can damage your joints and do more harm on your body, then good. Do NOT do this. Wait until you can afford the best trampoline you can afford. The second most common mistake is to start out too strong. If you get a cellerciser, ease into it. Start with a gentle health bounce or a twist. Let your body get used to the movement. Once you get accustomed to this for 3-5 minutes, work up to 10. Then when you are feeling stronger start easing into more difficult moves. Trust the process, it will change your life. 

DON'T JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT:

Please don’t just take my word for it, though. Do your due diligence and research rebounding and take a look at the difference between the cellerciser springs and bungee cords or other springs on rebounders. Take a look at the customer reviews and testimonials.
